With all talk about starting corporate wellness programs, it can be confusing where to start. If you're a large
company, you may be given a substantial budget and told to "improve the company's overall wellness." But what
does that mean? If you're a small company, you may have no idea where to start or how much things can cost
to implement.

The overall goal of a corporate wellness program should focus on a few key areas; decreasing healthcare
costs, improving office morale, and decreasing absenteeism. There are two simple programs that you can
implement to achieve all of these goals (and you can do them at little to no cost).

Start A Company Health Fair

These events can be done annually or semi-annually and can be modified by the amount of space you have
available. If you have a large open room, you can likely fit as many as 20 exhibitors and produce a well-rounded
health fair. Even if you only have a conference room, you can produce a mini-health fair that will still be effective
and helpful.

The health fairs can be informative while still being fun and a welcome break from the routine of an office. Our
group works only with providers that are donating their time as part of a "Public Service for Public Relations"
campaign. That is, every provider strives to educate the public about their service, so that when the person
needs them they will call.

Lunch And Learn Workshops

The second program to implement would be a "Lunch and Learn Workshop." These programs are done at your
location over a lunch hour. You provide the food and we provide the speaker. Your cost is amount of the meal,
so you can keep your expenses within your allotted budget.

Locating and finding speakers can be time-consuming, unless you are working with a program that teaches an
ongoing health curriculum. Depending on the size of your group, you'll want to schedule these lunch time talks
monthly or quarterly. Each workshop covers a different topic (ergonomics, posture, nutrition, lifestyle changes,
etc) and is meant to be educational and entertaining at the same time.

Both of these programs can be implemented quickly and will give your company the consistency it needs to
make lasting changes in its wellness efforts. You can still organize other programs, but the important thing is to
get started.
